Botanical Gardens
The earth remembers what we forgot. The AFYA Botanical Gardens are not decorative — they are medicinal. A living, working landscape of plants that have anchored African healing for centuries, now planted in the heart of the resort.
THE GARDEN PHILOSOPHY.
"Every plant in this garden has a healer's name, a continent of origin, and a body it knows how to restore."
The AFYA Botanical Gardens were designed in partnership with African ethnobotanists — practitioners who hold living knowledge of plant medicine traditions passed down across West, East, Central, Southern, and North Africa. This is not a curated aesthetic. It is a pharmacopoeia in the ground.
In African healing tradition, the garden has never been separate from the treatment room. The plants that grow here supply the spa treatment menu, the wellness cuisine kitchen, the botanical apothecary bar, and the in-room aromatherapy systems. The garden is the source. Everything else flows from it
DESIGNED FOR THE DMV CLIMATE. YEAR-ROUND ACCESS.
"The gardens are a four-season experience. Key botanical spaces — including the Water Garden plunge pool, the Healer's Walk, and primary seating areas — are housed in climate-controlled covered pavilions with living botanical walls. The full garden ecosystem remains open and immersive through the DMV's coldest winters. The plants never stop working."

The Garden Through the Seasons
Year-round · Living · Changing
Spring
March — May
New planting season. The harvest garden comes alive. Botanical tea blends shift to cleansing and renewal botanicals — moringa, dandelion root, nettle. Daily harvest ritual at peak activity.
Summer
June — August
Full bloom. Peak medicinal harvest. Outdoor movement sessions and healing circles move fully into the garden. Water Garden and mineral plunge pool at highest use. Long evening sessions in the Baobab Grove.
Autumn
September — November
Harvest preservation season. Apothecary bar features warming and grounding tonics — ginger, devil's claw, black seed. Garden seating areas lit with terracotta lanterns through longer evenings.
Winter
December — February
The DMV winters are real — and AFYA is designed for them. Covered and climate-controlled garden pavilions keep the full botanical experience accessible year-round. Evergreen medicinal species hold the open grounds. Rooibos and frankincense programmes peak indoors. Ancestral ceremony season — cultural programming at highest intensity in the enclosed garden spaces.
The Garden as Ecosystem
The garden does not stop at its edges.
Feeds the spa
Every botanical oil, every plant-infused steam, every herbal wrap in the AFYA spa treatment menu begins in this garden. The botanicals are harvested daily and delivered to the treatment rooms the same morning. There is no supply chain. The garden and the spa are one system.
Feeds the kitchen
The AFYA wellness chef collaborates with the botanical practitioner every week to align the kitchen menu with what is in season in the garden. The Healer's Bowl changes with the garden. The Plant Medicine Bar is formulated from what is growing. Nourishment and nature are the same thing here.
Feeds the body directly
Walking the garden is itself a wellness intervention. Exposure to botanical compounds through scent, touch, and natural air has documented effects on cortisol, blood pressure, and nervous system regulation. At AFYA the garden is not a backdrop. It is an active practitioner — one that works on every guest, all day, without a session to book.
